Meditation Program Offering

Coming to Avila for a meeting or retreat? Would you like to engage Peace Hill for a short or extended session of meditation or reflection as a part of your time together?

Peace Hill is a 25-year-old practicing contemplative community committed to nourish, energize, and sustain community organizers and those working for peace and justice in the world. Peace Hill facilitators draw upon a wide spectrum of practices including mindfulness, meditation, prayer, contemplation, and silence, reflecting a diversity of traditions and practices both ancient and contemporary. Offerings include regular morning gatherings on zoom, extended day retreats at Avila, and sessions for groups who have registered at Avila and would like to have a Peace Hill component as a part of their meeting or retreat.

Contemplation is the act of paying attention to one’s inner self. It is being still and quiet, allowing the internal source (light, divine, God) to nourish and replenish and lead. Sustained attention leads one toward an integrated life with a sense of deeper connectedness to all.

Too often, as noted by Thomas Merton, we can become “frenzied activists” and cut ourselves off from our inner peace and the roots of inner wisdom that makes our work fruitful. Contemplative action is work in the world informed and sustained by one’s interior life and a deepening sense of awareness of the oneness of all living things.

Sessions for groups can be scheduled for 10 minutes to 2 hours
